Why Is the Washing Machine Drum Not Rotating?

1. Broken or worn drive belt (top-load semi-automatic) — the rubber belt connecting the motor to the drum breaks with age. Signs: motor sounds like it is running but drum does not move at all.
2. Failed motor coupling (top-load fully automatic) — the plastic coupling between the motor and gearbox breaks. Signs: loud click or clunk, drum does not rotate, motor hums.
3. Seized drum bearings — worn bearings seize over time. Signs: very loud grinding or rumbling noise when drum tries to spin, drum feels stiff when rotated by hand.
4. Carbon brush wear (motor) — the carbon brushes on the motor wear down. Signs: sparks visible, burning smell, drum rotates intermittently or very slowly.
